Let’s face it, laptops are beginning to come to an end. Ten years ago when they were first produced they were seen as everlasting but now they are seen as a bit of a dying breed. Like many technological advances, the emphasis is on things that are much smaller and this is the laptop’s main failing; it is simply too big. Many people buy laptops but the smallest size that you can often get is 15″; this is simply too big to be practical in an increasingly mobile workplace. They are hard to use on a bus or train as they take up too much space and privacy of work is impossible – nosy neighbors find it hard to not have a sneaky peek at the screen as we are typing away. The laptop is slowly becoming obsolete because of this.
However, do not despair as there is another alternative. Notebooks are similar to laptops in that they have a screen that folds up from the base (unlike, for instance, the I-Pad which is one flat screen) which has a built in keyboard for your typing. The main advantage to them is that they are much smaller than a laptop; you can get ones with a screen of only 10″ which makes a massive difference. Sure, you may not be able to watch videos to the same size (although the pixilation that is often found with larger screens all but disappears) but at the end of the day, it is designed to be a work station and it does this incredibly well. You can work while you travel which, at a time when we are increasingly pushed for time, is an incredibly important tool.
